Assessing Candidate Driving Records

Many employers have positions that require employees to drive while on the job. For example, if you are seeking employment as a truck driver, there are rigorous driving assessments. Aside from receiving a CDL, your potential employer will require a driving record background check. Undergoing a background check is a standard procedure before being onboarded for almost any position. Businesses are looking to protect a brand and do not want to experience additional liability. There are multiple ways to use a driving background check to assess if a potential candidate is fit for the position.

Driving While Intoxicated

There are so many unfortunate passings that result from individuals taking the wheel while intoxicated. If a potential candidate has a DWI on record, it is likely that this person is not a responsible driver. A DWI indicates that this person may not be equipped to handle responsibilities which require autonomous decision-making. With this said, this mark on a person’s driving record does not necessarily mean they have not changed since the infraction. However, employers will be more apt to hire someone without this blemish appearing when running a driving record background check.

Outstanding Parking Tickets

While outstanding parking tickets may seem like a relatively small issue, they can point toward a lack of accountability. It is easy to lose track of time, but if drivers utilize public parking, they should abide by the guidelines. Failure to pay parking tickets could show employers that a potential candidate is not willing to atone for any possible wrongdoing.

Endangering Others with Reckless Driving

Reckless driving is subjective as it is viewed in a multitude of ways. At night, some individuals like to race one another when the streets are relatively clear of traffic. Others enjoy going over the speed limit to pass a slower driver. Regardless of why this infraction appears on a candidate’s driving record, it may be enough to steer an employer in a different direction.
